Passengers Could Receive Opal Refunds If Trains Are Delayed

Another morning of train chaos

Passengers Could Receive Opal Refunds If Trains Are Delayed AAP

The Labor government has pledged to issue train fare refunds for commuters who experience avoidable delays on their commute.

The announcement comes after a shocking morning for Sydney commuters, with 112 train staff calling in sick, resulting in trains being cancelled and extensive delays.

The Berejiklian Liberal government has ruled out the possibility of fare refunds in the past, however Labor has proposed a 'Fair Fares' policy which would see Opal users able to apply for a refund if their train is more than 30 minutes late.

“The train system lurches from crisis to crisis - the delays on the Sydney train network under the Premier and her Transport Minister are not good enough," NSW Opposition Leader Luke Foley said.

“For the first time we will introduce a full fair refund to people who have been delayed for 30 minutes or more on the train network.”
