The widening of Melbourne’s CityLink toll road is expected to be completed in late October, meaning drivers can use the extra lanes three months earlier than first thought, according to Fairfax Media.
The company responsible for the project, Transurban, said that some night work will continue until the end of the year but all lanes will be open during peak times by the end of the month.
The project is set to boost CItyLink’s capacity by unto 30%, with almost 30km of new lanes in both directions between Bulla Road and the West Gate.
Transurban say that time savings will amount to up to 17 minutes.
The road carries over 200,000 cars today.
The project will cost around about $1.3 billion.
