Surfers Uber assault sparks calls for cameras

The alleged rape of a woman by her Uber driver at Surfers Paradise has sparked calls for all ride-share cars to be forced to use security cameras.

The Queensland Taxi Council made the call after Sunday's announcement by state government to put cameras in taxis but not ride-sharing services.

A Coombabah man was charged over the weekend, accused of locking his doors and assaulting the 20-year-old at around 1am on Saturday morning.

The 24-year-old was remanded in custody.
