Chinderah Village Gets Green Light Despite Council Backflip

A $7.25 million plan to overhaul the Chinderah Tavern site will go ahead despite a backflip from a number of Tweed Shire councillors.

Three councillors including Mayor Katie Milne moved to overturn the initial decision by Tweed Shire Council to allow the development to go ahead two weeks ago.

They were calling for more community consultation to be undertaken before the project is given the green light, but their motion was voted down.

The so-called Chinderah Village will now be built at the site, featuring a new hotel, medical centre and other specialty stores.
