Council is progressing with construction works on the Oakey Creek Crossing at Lorrimer Street in Oakey.
TRC Deputy Mayor and Infrastructure Services Committee chair Cr Carol Taylor said work had started on the project and was scheduled to be completed in June this year, weather permitting.
“The project will strengthen and widen the existing crossing and provide far better flood immunity,” Cr Taylor said.
“Council has estimated the improvements will reduce the average annual closure time due to flooding from about five days to two days per year.
“This will aid public safety and offer far more reliable and serviceable traffic conditions along Lorrimer Street to residents.
“The work also will improve the aquatic habitat to allow for safe fish passage along the creek crossing.
“Traffic diversions will be necessary during the project.
“Please plan ahead for your trips and follow all signage for the safety of motorists and construction workers.
“Council has notified nearby residents, schools and businesses and is especially grateful for the Oakey community’s patience and cooperation during the works.”
