Two women have been taken to hospital after a single-vehicle crash on the Central Coast yesterday.

About 6.30pm, emergency services were called to the intersection of Cooranga and Cardonia roads, Wyongah, following reports of crash.

Police have been told the Holden Commodore station wagon was travelling south on Cooranga Road when it left with roadway and hit a tree.

The 23-year-old female driver, and her 35-year-old female passenger, were trapped for a short time.

The driver was taken to Royal North Shore Hospital suffering head injuries, while the passenger was airlifted to Westmead Hospital suffering critical head injuries.

Officers from Tuggerah Lakes Police District attended and were assisted by officers from the Metropolitan Crash Investigation Unit.

Inquiries continue.
